MINIMALIST LIVING ROOM DESIGN - In preparation for the Holidays it’s important to get your
home organized but to also keep an element of coziness to it, because there is
nothing better than snuggling up on the couch after a long dinner party with a
full stomach and a warm blanket! Here are some ideas I brought to my living
room to achieve this minimalist but welcoming look.
1. Clean up the clutter on your coffee table. I love a tray
{like this Raffia one from West Elm} with just a few accent pieces
like a Jonathan Adler match striker, a Michael Aram candle, a Mackenzie-Childsmagnifying
glass, and a cute dish. Notice how I placed everything with a bit of space in
between so you can see the pretty raffia. Once you lose site of the tray
beneath you know you have too much clutter.
2. On to my couch. I was on the hunt for some really comfy
grey and neutral pillows and I ended up loving one from Safavieh and this one from
West Elm. Mixing prints is totally on trend right now as long as they are in
the same color family, so have a blast mixing and matching prints and textures.
Not sure of which ones to go with? Check out this FH post for fab
recommendations or see the bottom of this post to shop some other neutral
options.
3. Rather than having throw blankets out on the couch, which
can look disorganized and messy if not folded properly, fold them up into a
wicker basket {like this one} and place alongside or below your side
table. Anything chenille material is my absolute favorite in the winter. Just
keep in mind that the colors should be complimentary to your couch and
coordinating pillows, so say goodbye that bright yellow smiley face pillow you
got from your camp retreat!
4. Simplify your coffee table. While I usually love a
lot of little vases and candles covering my side tables, it’s best to keep things clean and simple
during the Holiday time {translation: easier cleaning!}. I swapped my small
votives for larger accent pieces like beautiful bulky candle sticks, a lantern,
and a small tray. Again, I like that it looks sparse!
5. Then it’s time to enjoy! Snuggle up on the couch with
ones you love. The FHB seems pretty pleased with the outcome! LIVING ROOM
